I am in the process of reading and reviewing the book Spoken For by Robin Jones Gunn and Alyssa Joy Bethke. On page 56 I found these words, “God’s love is unending, unconditional and free. It’s not based on what we do or don’t do. It’s not based on who we are or aren’t. It’s not promised to us when we’re ‘all good to go’, but rather, as God makes clear in Romans 5:8, his love is lavished on us even while we are sinners. This love is based on God’s character because he is love itself.”
And then there was this tweet from Secret Church the other day, “God’s pleasure in you is not based upon your performance for Him. God’s pleasure in you is based upon Christ’s performance for you.”
I think He is trying to get my attention. Trying to take these truths, from my head to my heart…
1. I am approved and enough because of Christ (and what He did and who He is).
See 1 Thessalonians 2:4
2. I can’t earn His love (it is a an undeserved gift).
See Ephesians 2:8
3. My worth and value are not in what I do, but in who I am (the object of His affections).
See Ephesians 1

My driving and striving can be exhausting, to others and to me. He longs for me to rest in Him. He desires that I delight in Him, first and foremost. “Whether you realize it or not, God is calling you out daily. Every moment of every day. He is waiting. He is there. He wants you. He does not give up. He longs for you to catch his gaze, read his invitation, and come to him. He will go to any length to win your heart. And here’s the crazy thing- he did” (pg. 73, Spoken For).
Do you run? Or hide? Or turn your back on Him?
The One who loves and woos. The One who relentlessly pursues, but also lets you choose.
Do you run to Him? Do you hide secure, in the shadow of His wings? Do you turn back to Him?
The One who gave all, and is all, so you can be new- so you can be His.
Let’s lay down our gripping fears, our frantic grasping and our frequent failures.
Let’s pick up His Truth, His tender affections and His boundless grace.
Let’s walk today, with fresh hope, as His presence gives us rest, security and strength
to face the day.
In Christ we have, “strength for today, and bright hope for tomorrow...”
Love,
Katie

Yes, Katie, I’m right here with you. These same thoughts have been on my mind recently. I can’t do enough to earn His love…and I don’t have to. How freeing is that?! Walking with you in fresh Hope today in his rest, security and strength. Thank you for the inspiration today! 😀
