As we begin this series let’s look at some of the benefits of digging into God’s Word, found in Psalm 19:7-11.
The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.
The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes.
The judgments of the Lord are true; they are righteous altogether.
Sweeter also than honey and the drippings of the honeycomb.
In keeping them there is great reward.”

What are benefits to God’s law, testimony, precepts, commandments, and judgments?
They restore the soul, make wise the simple, rejoice the heart, enlighten the eyes, endure forever, they are righteous and more desirable than gold. And “by them we are warned and in keeping them there is great reward.”
What a list! Why wouldn’t we want to know His Word better? Look at all the benefits! And the greatest of all is knowing Him better. Won’t you join us as we grow more in love with the One who loves us most?

Deep Breaths:
1. Reread Psalm 19. Which verse stands out to you the most? Why?
2. What benefit from Psalm 19:4-7 is especially meaningful to you?
3. Spend a few minutes in prayer, thanking God for His Word. Ask Him to lead, guide, and keep you as you dig into the Psalms this next month. We are praying for you and so glad that you are joining us as we journey and grow together.

Yesterday, I wrote about the beautiful grace of God…reminders of his peace and His glory. We forget to stop and notice.
I appreciate the straightforward reminder of verse 8, that adherence and reliance on God's word are essential.
Verses 4-7 are so significant in reminding me that God is in control. As I type, birds are singing, a symphony of chords and conversation about God's love.

Great reminder to stop and notice His glory- all around. "As I type, birds are singing, a symphony of chords and conversations about God's Love"- love that!

The verses that stood out to me the most today were verses 1-4 because they talk about the heavens and th skies proclaiming the glory of God and displaying His craftsmanship, how they speak and make Him known day after day, night after night without a word or a sound. Yet their message has gone throughout the earth and to all the worlds. And I think that this is part of my job too, to make Him known, but an area where I often fall short or don't even truly make an effort. I especially like the benefit listed in verse 8 – "bringing joy to the heart." It is true that my heart is more joyful when I make the time to be in God's Word! Thank you for this series. I am looking forward to it!
Katie says
Thank you Julia- glad you are joining us!:) I agree, my heart is more joyful when I make time to be in God's Word too- why do I neglect it at times? It is such a gift!

"The law of the Lord is perfect, restoring the soul;" This speaks to me the most. I feel like I'm in a period of rest and restoration. I'm not sure of everything God is going to do, but I'm trying to trust Him in the process.
I'm looking forward to reading more in this series!!
Katie says
Thank you Alecia! "Restoring the soul"- what a weight-lifting, peace-giving, hope-filled phrase and concept that is. Thankful that He is able to restore our souls.

I have always loved verses 1-4 as well, Julia. I cannot see a sunrise or sunset or watch the changing sky as a storm approaches without thinking about our wonderful Creator. His order and beauty in the stars and the wonder of the universe truly speak of His majesty. Thanks, Katie. I'm excited about this series.
Katie says
Love this Sabra, "His order and beauty in the stars and the wonder of the universe truly speak of His majesty." Let's wake up to the wonder of His love all around, all the time. So glad you are a part of this series friend!:)

Verse 1: 1 The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.
I love the poetic praise of this Psalm – and I think it is a reminder of true worship – to declare His glory and proclaim His Handiwork!
Katie says
That's probably one reason I love the Psalms- the poetic style.:)
Jen Mullen says
love the question portion! Finally sitting down to reflect!
Katie says
Thanks Jen- I needed to hear that- happy reflecting.:)
