Note to self: When doing a video interview don’t have the computer so close and don’t be so nervous.
Seriously though, it was fun to share a few words with the Five Minute Friday community and hopefully inspire you to reach out to others, especially those who may live within driving distance.:) It was such a joy to have coffee with Beth and brownies with Kate this month.Let’s write for 5 minutes as we pull up a chair and pour out hope. This week’s prompt is: Visit.
It’s feels safe to stay…
to stay isolated, to have a perceived sense of control, to image-manage.But as I followed my out-dated GPS out of the city to the suburbs I knew that she was going to get more of the real me than she had seen on the screen, and I was kind of nervous about that. But I was tired…tired of my issues and ready to be more real so that I could get better. We had met online (I heard about her Three Word Wednesday link-up through Holly) and now Beth and I were meeting in real life, at Starbucks.
She bought me a hot chocolate and I spilled my guts about my struggles with platform and selfish-ambitions.
She smiled and shared and loved me right where I was.
And I didn’t scare her too much with my vulnerability because she wants to do it again.
This meeting, over warm beverages started to thaw my heart.
This visit reminded me of what I have been neglecting; real-life encounters with friends.
I had been hiding…waiting for others to come find me, but I needed to go to them and remember that although it can be messy it is necessary for our growth.
A visit can change us.
His visit to earth, changed everything.
Who will you visit this coming month?
Who will you let in so that you can learn and love better?
Love this post, Katie! So jealous that you two got to meet though! Would love to hug both your necks. Thanks for the encouragement to visit someone and be vulnerable. God is glorified in that and we are encouraged. Loved your video with Asheritah too!
Thank you Holly- hoping that happens one day soon!.:) Looking forward to watching your video too.
Oh, yes! I just met a new blogger friend in real life at a Panera this week, and it was so fun (and scary) to step from behind the screen into real life. But it also takes the relationship to a whole new level. So glad you found a close blogging friend you can connect with!
(And, for the record, you did great in the video and you look just great.) 🙂
Yeah for real life meets.:) Thanks!
So much truth to this post. I’m always so afraid of what others will think of me. But when I truly let it go and an myself, amazing friendships come about. Thanks for this post. It was a beautiful reminder today!
You are most welcome Tara. I often feel that way too. Here’s to letting go and taking a risk with friendships.:)
Oh friend – so much amen! I love this so much! I am actually going to an If:Local tomorrow night and Saturday. It’s at a church I don’t attend, and with women I don’t really know very well – but God said go, so I will go! (Plus – in the coming months, I will get to meet up inrl with several online friends at Faith and Culture and Jumping Tandem! Yay!
Oh so fun to meet up with friends at those events! Hope to meet you inrl sometime.:)
Yes!! Just love the message you are sharing here, and through your video, on the importance of not waiting for others to come and find us, but on reaching out and finding others. Good for you! 🙂 And thank you again for the very special visit!
Thank you Kate.:)
Hi Katie, I watched your video interview. Very inspiring. God Bless you so much.
Thank you Ifeoma and congrats again on your book.
I have recently been able to meet in real life with a couple of blog friends and it was so much fun. To be able to sit and talk with someone else that understood and ‘got’ this thing called blogging was such a relief. I can’t wait to step out and met more but to also remember to spend time with the friends God has already given me.
Yes, what a treat to hang out with others who “get this” crazy writing world. And such a good reminder also to “spend time with the friends God has already given us.”
I LOVED the video! And how fun to read about your VISIT! I read another post also about a friend meeting a mutual on-line friend. I’m so jealous! Being so far away makes it pretty impossible for me to meet people. But I look forward to being stateside a few months starting in August. Who knows who I could visit? (I just joined #fmfparty for the second time and find it lots of fun.)
Hi Betsy! Would like to meet you in real life. I am sure it is hard but what you are doing matters so and your sacrifice is impacting the world in amazing ways.:)
This is exciting! I’m going to be meeting Karilee for the first time at Jumping Tandem. Meeting AND sharing a room. So all kinds of up front and personal stuff at once. But I couldn’t be happier. As always, I love reading your words, Katie!
Jennifer- Have so much fun with Karrilee!:)
Katie in a month I will be moving to Santee Lakes, so in April I have no idea who will be coming to have coffee or Vanilla Chai Latte. Our change is bittersweet. I love your blog. I am a newer blogger. Blessings Diana
Praying for peace in your transition Diana. May He bring you some wonderful soul-deep friends in your new location. May He fill you with peace as you adjust.
This line…..”I had been hiding…waiting for others to come find me, but I needed to go to them and remember that although it can be messy it is necessary for our growth.” Yes. So good. Thank you Katie.
Hi Wendy- Let’s step out of hiding and offer a smile, a connection, a listening ear to others.:)
I met with a few friends that I made online, last month and had a gala time. Like you, I too feel that I need to go out and make friends rather than wait to be found.
FMF friend,
Tanya

Yes Tanya- what fun! Let’s go find others and uplift those who may be feeling like us.
